Detailed Description

END OF LIFE NOTICE:
The HD24613 and HD25140 are being replaced by our new 802.11n product, HD28650. This is due to the 802.11b/g chip sets becoming harder to obtain and the industry's push toward 802.11b/g/n devices. We will continue to support current and previous purchases for the HD24613 and HD25140 models through the 1-year warranty period from the date of purchase.

HD25140
NEW!!! In-Wall / 802.11b/g Wireless Access Point
802.11B/G In-Wall wireless access point (does NOT include PoE injector)

Note: This product requires a Power over Ethernet (PoE) injector and power supply. if you do not plan on using a PoE switch or midspan than you should purchase HD24613 which includes the POE injector and power supply.

The HD25140 802.11B/G wireless access point is designed to fit into a standard single gang box (a low-voltage install ring is available as an option; HD24813) and bring the benefits of both a RJ-45 wired connection as well as WiFi wireless connection. The HD25140 can be installed and configured easily into any new wireless network or integrated within an existing wired network resulting in a more flexible and cost-effective wireless deployment. And, a network administrator can centrally manage the HD25140 via a Web browser or an SNMP MIB browser. Power and data are supplied to the unit using CAT5 Ethernet cable and PoE injector (not included).

Range problems are a function of the client devices. The laptop, the iPhone, the WiFi desktop card, the wireless control tablet and so on. These are all low-power devices. Typically only 23 to 63 mW. The answer to better WiFi is locating the wireless access point closer to the user. You can not do that with conventional wireless routers or access points. Nobody wants a box in their bedroom or kitchen with antennas sticking out of it. The beauty of the in-wall wireless access point is you can put the devices where the user is located when using their WiFi-enabled devices. Thus creating better WiFi connections and faster connection speeds.

In basic terms, it is like two people playing catch with a baseball. One person can throw the ball 500 feet but the other can only throw the ball 100 feet. You can not play catch unless you are within that 100 feet of each other. A common question we get is, "then why when I install a higher-power booster or higher-gain antenna do I see 5 bars now on my laptop." Well, sure. Now you have a person who can throw the ball 1000 feet. You still are not going to have a successful catch unless you are within that 100 feet. WiFi is a two-way system. You request information from the router, then the router sends you the information. If you cannot request the information because you are too far, you have no WiFi.

Other in-wall access points are too big, too expensive, and often require additional proprietary equipment to use them. The HD25140 is just made simple, requiring only a PoE injector.

The HD25140 is ideal for institutions that are already wired for CAT5 and now need both a wired connection as well as a wireless solution in each room. The HD25140 has an RJ-45 connector on the front of the unit so a user will not lose their wired connection while obtaining a wireless connection in each room. For large installations, a PoE switch is available to support up to 24 in-wall access points.

Note For Installers:
While we do not recommend WEP as a security standard, some customers have older 802.11b cards that do not support WPA (the correct security standard to use). As a service to our installers, who must configure our HD25140 in-wall AP for their customers who can only use WEP as a security level, click here for a courtesy link to create a WEP key.

WEP is no longer considered a security feature. It's recommended to use WPA/WPA2-TKIP.
